As a renowned university in China, Beijing Institute of Technology has solid research foundation and profound industrial heritage. To encounter with the challenges of technological innovation in modern industrial high-end equipment, it is highly necessary to establish the Institute of Advanced Structure Technology. It perfectly meets the needs of the BIT's education positioning and the disciplinary development strategy of science and technology, particularly focused on research in sophisticated structure and technology, in contrast with other academic schools at BIT who have different orientations rather than structure and technology. Together with these academic schools, the Institute plays an important role in developing modern industrial facilities and equipment and bidding for major national projects, so as to make an extension to other more cutting-edge research platforms.
The Institute strives to develop a brand-new innovative research mode for the modern industrial facilities and equipment by placing an equal stress on structure and function, and integrating the materials and devices into a synergy, adhering to the principle of equal emphasis on fundamental science and applied research in science and technology. We’re endeavoring to turn the Institute into a well-known research base home and abroad with original innovation capacity, as well as a training base for cultivating outstanding talents in advanced structure and technology.
Targeting at the cutting-edge basic scientific problems and major engineering technological issues of advanced structures in industrial high-end equipment in line with the national medium and long-term scientific and technological development strategy, the Institute intends to establish new design theories, new concepts, new processes, new characterization methods and experimental methods for advanced structure and technology, in order to serve the modernization of industrial equipment in China.
The Institute will make commitments to develop institutionally and technologically innovative solutions for tackling engineering practical problems related with major national demands by adhering to the principle of equal emphasis on fundamental research and applied research in science and technology. In term of fundamental research, we are intended to explore new design theories, new concepts, new processes, new characterization methods, and experimental methods for the multifunctional integration of advanced materials, structures, and devices through interdisciplinary incorporation. Regarding the applied research in science and technology, we will exert every effort to conquer the challenges in preparation methods and testing technologies for lightweight multifunctional integrated structures, and try to make breakthroughs in advanced structure manufacturing, testing instrument and equipment, and related software development.
During the past five years, by adopting the principle of “doing something but not everything” the Institute has particularly put stress on fundamental research and tackling problems in key technologies to meet the application needs of high-end industrial equipment from the engineering perspective. The Institute will take full advantage of the strong research foundation and profound industrial heritage of Beijing Institute of Technology and strive to build itself into a well-known research base with original innovative capacities home and abroad, so as to enhance BIT’s international academic reputation and to better serve the national strategy, and henceforth playing a pivotal role in building BIT into a world-class university of science and technology.
